Golden Gate Bridge – Marin Headlands
On a work trip to San Francisco I found myself having a free day. While I did not bring my bike or cycling clothes because I did not expect to have time for a ride, I rented a road bike at Fisherman’s Wharf and in regular street clothes and flip flops I rode over the Golden Gate Bridge, up to Hawk Hill, around the Marin Headlands, and back over the bridge. While the bridge was a little crowded, this is a fantastic half-day bike trip. It is very easy to navigate and while hilly and usually windy and sometimes foggy, the scenery is spectacular. Another popular option is to ride over the bridge to Sausalito and take the ferry back to San Francisco.
